Sheets and Sheets
2009-12-29T08:01:45Z

How many times a day do you look at your wash basin and think, gosh! It’d be super great if I could’ve gotten a lot nicer and more environmentally-sound wash basin up in here! How much do you want a basin based on sheets? Sheets are the future. This particular basin, designed by Sokolova Ekateryna and titled “Aqua Vita”, is just the basin you might very well need.

Elegant and light on the eyes. The form of this lovely object is based on the so called “natural desire” of the water to form a whirlpool shape, flowing down freely from the point of access at the top.

How fancy!

Furniture Made to Grow
2009-12-29T08:47:09Z

Inspired in part by the classic game “Jenga,” this furniture bit is made to be a seat for a toddler, a bigger chair for a kid growing up, and a multitude of helpful bits for life! Working with both simple birch plywood pieces and a large stainless steel structure for strength and growth. Is it a seat, or is it a bunch o’ shelves? It’s both!

Your piece of “Zen,” as this amalgamation is called, grows with you. As you get a larger place to live, need larger items in your home, so too do you get a larger Zen.

You know who I bet would love this? Teachers.

Size: 540 x 640 x 1620(h)
Materials: Birch plywood, stainless steel

All Up In A Cell
2009-12-31T08:01:10Z

Concept cars is what everybody needs in the future. You bet. This right here is a futuristic vision of the Audi cell car set up on independent axles and center turning drive shafts. All of the insides hidden in a fabulously eye-meltingly nice carbon body. Transport you and you loved ones around in style and safety. It’s a must.

You think Audi’d market this fabulous auto?

Electric motors inside the wheels, L:4220mm, W:1980mm, H:1350mm. Airflow around the wheel body work and axle engineered to create high downforce, aerodynamic shapes for a more fluent drive. Made of a combination of recyclable polymer materials and “progressive strong carbon fiver surfaces according to F1 construction.” Kamera system monitors situation around the vehicle and notifies the passengers accordingly.

And a fantastic kinetic energy recovery system.

That’s what’s up.

Lights In Parts Only
2010-01-01T08:00:28Z

The LED EcoBulb is quite easygoing; it illuminates only those parts of the rooms as required. The bulb has six distinct sections to it, and via the remote control you can change the brightness and direction of the lights. The theory is that we use many bulbs and light sources in a room and most of the time they are unnecessary. This one bulb can be powerful enough to illuminate the entire room or segments which light-up required areas only. On paper this sounds good, but some may prefer Full Enlightenment to partial lighting.

I Daresay… SNAP!
2010-01-01T08:01:18Z

No foolies, this concept vehicle right here is called the “SNAP.” This is the first time I’ve seen a transport vehicle that not only offers single-person transportation, but also a multi-singular long-range option. What I mean is this is basically a three-wheel single passenger vehicle until it’s time to get on the train. Each SNAP vehicle is able to simply connect to the main SNAP train, one next to the other, offering private mass transit with ease!

And once you’re on that train, you can open your door and talk to your fellow SNAP pilot along the way to your train’d location. Or keep it closed. Eat your sandwich in there in peace, probably.

What’s more? The SNAP singular vehicle option is similar to a two-wheel motorbike, shelling out tight turns like they were french fries. Adjustable track width back wheels for stability, giant front wheel for ease in leaning. Moveable chassis allow for connection to the locamotive. The train travels with multiple SNAPS at a time for a slightly more gas-friendly and environmental option.

SNAP races are a definite must when these fabulous machines come to fruition. I say so.

I favorited a YouTube video: This is the Muslim tolerance test. If a Muslim can tolerate watching this video without wanting to stone me to death afterwards, then they are not a fundamentalists. I edited this little video to make fun of religion. Anyone is welcome to download this video and use it for whatever they want. Please feel free to send this video to anyone.

Best of Yanko Design 2009
2009-12-24T13:00:10Z

The year 2009 can be marked as one of the most defining years for Yanko Design and its community. The year can be re-capped with the Best of 2009, but on the same note it’s important to iterate our accomplishments. When the world was facing its worst global recession in decades, (including the design industry as a whole), YD on its part grew its outlook by innovating to stay ahead of the game. For a moment you can actually say that Innovation has been the theme symbolic to YD and this year’s best designs.

I am equally proud of every member in the YD family. The team took initiatives and spearheaded projects that added value in every sense of the word. The Job Board has proven to be more effective in landing positions v/s recruitment and agencies. The YD Store made business sense to us but it made a stronger statement for the individual designers. It gave them freedom to focus on creativity, while YD Store took care of bringing those products to the design advocates. The equation is perfect; the designers get to do what they’re passionate about, while YD realizes their inspirations.

With our readers ranging from the creative industry (industrial, graphics design, interior, fashion design, ect) to the traditional industry (info tech, finance, entertainment, marketing, manufacturing, ect), we can proudly say that we have one of the most vocal communities where voices are heard. The innovations that you see on YD are all a result of those suggestions. This includes the interviews, reviews & Podcasts .

To sum it up, we’ve had a pretty innovative year, and we hope next year will be bigger, better and brighter for all of us!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
